This edition, produced by Mayfair Games - which is a leader company in the euro-themed boardgaming universe - is rich in materials and has a really cheap price. Today we chose Agricola Family Edition (for 1-4 players) the recent remix of the basic Agricola from Uwe Rosenberg made to help younger gamers and families to approach to the world of boardgaming. The price is very cheap for the overall level and quality of the game, so if you had any doubt I hope that I’ve removed them. The longevity is good cause action tiles and room tiles are always randomized.

I would not suggest it to those who have never played a Rosenberg before (try Agricola Family first!), but I think theat all the German-lovers and experienced players will love this title. It is deep enough to let the player plan their actions carefully, but light enough to occupy only 30-40 minutes of your time! The materials are really really good and the graphics is awesome as you could see. This smaller version gives the feel of the old, big cousin but offers a different gaming experience.

There are walls configurations (for example: the room must be placed in a free space, with a wall on top and one on the bottom) on the room tiles, that must be respected when the room is built.Īt the end of the game, the player whose cave has the most valuable rooms (in terms of VP shown on them) and who has more gold than his opponent, wins the match!Ĭaverna was a great Rosenberg title. There are also Blue rooms that are always active and always give bonuses but these rooms can be built only if there are more Orange rooms in your cave. Usually, Orange rooms give the player who uses them: resources (stone or wood), gold, food (grain or vegetables) or excavation bonuses. Some of these actions tiles will help the players to activate some of the Orange rooms they’ve built in previous turns. To build rooms and to excavate (two of the most important actions) players need food and building resourced that they should obtain - in their turns - by selecting the correct action tile. These are mainly ‘rooms’ for the players caves, that can be built in later rounds with the corresponding build action. That cave has room for many facedown tiles that must be excavated by the players in order to be revealed. Each player has a little personal board with his cave depicted on. As the game progresses, new action tiles will be discovered, with a mechanism similar to Caverna and Agricola’s one. These actions, are shown by randomly positioned tiles on a little and long board. In each round the players will alternate by taking actions (2 actions for the first 4 round 3 actions for the following 4 round and 4 actions in the last round).

The rulebook is adequately short and full of examples and clarifications. The resources trackers are colourful veggiemeeples made of wood, familiar to those who already have other Rosenberg’s titles. Although the box is small, inside you’ll find plenty of high quality materials, made of thick cardboard: player’s boards and main board (both foldable), cavern tiles and action tiles.
